Song Premiere: Rosine’s “It Never Ends” — single from upcoming debut on Compass Records
Crisply picked guitar notes circle around ringing mandolin runs in the opening measures of “It Never Ends,” the new single from Rosine, the husband/wife duo of Forrest O’Connor and Meredith Lane O’Connor.
Meredith’s sparkling vocals flow over these instrumental layers as the song unfurls spaciously before picking up tempo. Propelled by Alison Brown’s driving banjo picking and Forrest’s father Mark O’Connor’s high-flying fiddling, the song picks up tempo, especially on the instrumental bridge that veers from bluegrass to blues to jazz. The changes in tempo from the whirling, breakneck pace of the first part of the song and first part of the bridge to the slower pace of the second half of the bridge, and the song’s ending mimics the never-ending shifts from the often frantic rhythms of life to the calm measures of time when we allow ourselves space to breathe and reflect.
As Meredith says of the song, “‘It Never Ends’ is about the push and pull between wanting connection while also wanting some space from the 24/7 world we’re all living in.” The single appears on Rosine’s self-titled debut album, due in March 2027 on Compass Records. Pre-order here.
