In the meantime, here’s a sneak peek at some exciting new music that’s caught our ears this week!
Billy Bragg, “City of Heroes”
“City of Heroes” was written, recorded, and released within 24 hours as a tribute to community resistance in Minneapolis. “I wrote this song as a tribute to the bravery of the people of Minneapolis. Knowing that these trigger-happy ICE thugs operate in their midst, they are still willing to put themselves in harm’s way to defend their community. Their resistance is an inspiration to us all.”
Kronos Quartet, “Sometime I Feel Like a Motherless Child” (feat. Mahalia Jackson)
Glorious Mahalia is Kronos Quartet’s new album featuring new works by the group that incorporate archival audio of Jackson singing and speaking with WFMT radio host and oral historian Studs Terkel, as well as a new interview with King’s lawyer and speechwriter Clarence B. Jones recorded for this release.
The East Pointers, “Rafters”
“Rafters” is a new instrumental song from the Canadian group, The East Pointers, originally from Prince Edward Island. This is Tim Chaisson and Jake Charron’s first record since the death of their bandmate Koady Chaisson.
Aysanabee, “Dream Catcher” (acoustic)
The Oji-Cree artist Aysanabee’s latest is an EP featuring stripped-back, reimagined songs drawn from across his three releases. The song “Dream Catcher” talks about the struggle of chasing dreams and the fear of being caught in a cycle of unfulfilled aspirations. It emphasizes the importance of faith, breaking free from self-imposed limitations, and holding onto dreams despite the challenges and uncertainties of life.
