Hayes Carll, “Progress of Man (Bitcoin & Cattle)”

Hayes Carll’s got an upcoming album We’re Only Human (out on 8/08) featuring the new song “Progress of Man (Bitcoin & Cattle).” “The record was inspired by a desire to start listening to my inner voice rather than running from it. The songs are my way of solidifying the lessons I’ve learned, not because I have all the answers, but because I need the reminder that we’re all only human,” says Carll.

Samantha Crain, “B-Attitudes”

Out today, Gumshoe is Samantha Crain’s new album with the track “B-Attitudes.” Of the song, she shares “In Oklahoma, where I live, there are open spaces, empty fields, huge areas of untouched land everywhere, yet almost none of it is accessible or available to walk on or explore. It’s all private property. As someone whose biggest monetary asset is a Martin guitar, I don’t have much sense of ownership of things or places. But when I see how much of the space that surrounds me is completely off limits to me and out of my reach, I can’t help but want a piece of that. I would rather it all be open to everyone, but if not that, I want my own little bit of earth to form a bond with, to care for, to exist on.”

The Wood Brothers, “Witness”

Puff of Smoke (out 8/1) is the ninth studio album from brothers Chris and Oliver Wood and Jano Rix, The Wood Brothers. Of their new song “Witness,” Oliver shares “We’re not in control and that can be good news. Puff of Smoke speaks to the idea of letting go and taking the ride.”

Kelsey Waldon, “Comanche”

Kentucky singer-songwriter’s sixth studio album, Every Ghost (out 6/20) features the song “Comanche.” The song is a tribute to the power of setting boundaries and the loss that sometimes accompanies personal growth. Waldon’s 1988 Jeep Comanche serves as a metaphor for finding strength in solitude, with the vehicle representing a form of therapy and self-expression.
