2016 30A Songwriters Festival: Wine, Women & Song

At the 2016 30A Songwriters Festival, three singer/songwriters recorded a set of unique performances for Folk Alley. Country and Americana powerhouses Gretchen Peters, Suzy Bogguss and Matraca Berg stopped by Folk Alley’s 30A remote studio near Santa Rosa Beach, FL to share songs (and a glass of wine) in this informal session. The 30A Songwriters Festival offers a rare opportunity for artists who generally play solo to team up with talented friends for special musical moments.

Suzy Bogguss is one of country music’s most pristine and evocative vocalists. With the release of the Illinois native’s 1989 major label debut, ‘Somewhere Between,’ Suzy quickly became one of the key artists that defined those golden days of ’90s country.

Gretchen Peters first arrived in Nashville in 1987 and quickly established herself as a songwriting force to be reckoned with, with tracks recorded by some of the biggest names in country music. In 1996, she began singing her songs, establishing herself as a powerful performer as well.

If Matraca Berg has made a name for herself, it’s been for the gorgeous honesty the Hall of Fame songwriter brings to longing, desire, survival and sometimes even fighting back. It is how the Nashville native earned her first #1 at 18 and Grammy nomination at 22.
