Why We Write with Kim Ruehl, Eps. 58: David Wilcox
David Wilcox has been a beloved songwriter in the folk/roots realm for decades. His newest album, My Good Friends, was released in August and it offers fans more incredible story-songs that feel like laser zaps straight to the heart.
Indeed, his music is a heart journey. His relationship with songwriting, as he says, is about a “communication between heart and mind.”
On this episode of the Why We Write podcast, Wilcox talks about the importance of listening to his heart, what he’s learned about his process from writing custom songs for fans, and what motorcycles have to do with his songwriting process. Songs, he says, “don’t need to be perfect; they need to be written.”
