Why We Write with Kim Ruehl, Eps. 30: Watkins Family Hour
For twenty years, Sara and Sean Watkins have been performing a regular musical variety show at Largo in Los Angeles, called the Watkins Family Hour. Through the decades, they’ve pulled their friends onstage for collaborations on cover songs and originals alike.
To hear them tell it, the show has been a big, important part of their growth as both musicians and songwriters. So, on this episode of Why We Write, we got discussing the relationship between reworking old songs and writing completely new ones.
How has growing up in front of an audience impacted their process? When did they start to feel like they found their voice? In what way is songwriting like popping a zit? We got into all of it, so enjoy this episode of the podcast with the Watkins Family.
