The Duhks

The Duhks are back on the road and touring with a line-up that is old, new and returned. With Winnipeg-based Leonard Podolak as the only consistent member, the Juno-winning and Grammy-nominated group is sounding better than ever, returning to its Quebecois-tinged, rootsy, high energy, world music core with original singer Jessee Havey, percussionist Kevin Garcia, fiddler Anna Lindblad and multi-instrumentalist Colin Savoie-Levac. The Duhks stopped by the Folk Alley studios in Kent, Ohio, to play a few songs from their 2014 release, ‘Beyond the Blue.

No band epitomizes the polyethnic strands of modern folk music better than The Duhks. Since forming in Winnipeg in 2001 The Duhks have created a dynamic blend of old-timey, French Canadian and Celtic music punched up with shades of blues, soul and driving Afro Cuban rhythms that leaves festival crowds on their feet. Over the course of 4 critically-acclaimed albums the band has played a significant role in the neo-folk revival. The songs coming from the reformed and reimagined Duhks represents a group of musicians at the peak of their powers, the music shaped by their collective experience of years on the road and driven by the sheer joy and inspiration that comes from reuniting and rediscovering that magic that drew them together in the first place.
