2017 30A Songwriters Festival: Peter Case

Peter Case was born in Buffalo, New York in the 50s. He grew up playing music and wrote his first song at age 11. At 16, he left home for a life as a musician, ending up in San Francisco where his life as a street musician was captured in the documentary film ‘Night Shift.’ In 1974, he formed the American punk band The Nerves with Paul Collins and Jack Lee, moving to Los Angeles and becoming part of the growing music revolution. They broke up after a final show at the Whisky a Go Go and Case moved on to The Plimsouls, adding R&B and folk rock sounds to his rock ‘n’ roll mix. After they called it quits in 1985, Case found himself shifting towards story songs and the start of what would become the Americana movement, re-embracing the acoustic lifestyle. A series of respected albums established Case’s solo career and provided all-important radio play. Case has continued to explore the roots music landscape ” establishing himself as a musician for the ages.
