Jeff Black

Jeff Black might be called a “songwriter’s songwriter.” His songs have been recorded by artists like Waylon Jennings, BlackHawk, and Sam Bush (who loves Black’s work so much he used one, King of the World, as an album titled as well), but he started writing songs so that he would have something to perform. After discovering the guitar in Kansas City (and playing Green, Green Grass of Home in a 6th Grade talent show), Black took the long road to a career in music, making his singer/songwriter debut on stage of the club at which he had been working as a bouncer. Along the way, he’s been lauded by critics and press (including Paste, American Songwriter and Billboard) for writing songs that have a way of reaching out and grabbing listeners with their deeply felt and personal emotions. He has also applied his talent to film, scoring documentaries like PBS’s The Appalachians. Black’s most recent album is Tin Lily, on the Dualtone label.
