In Review: Guest DJ Hour with Kaia Kater

Montreal-born Grenadian-Canadian claw hammer banjoist and songwriter Kaia Kater joined Cindy Howes as Guest DJ on Folk Alley to celebrate the release of her third album, Grenades, out now on Smithsonian Folkways Recordings. Kater speaks about her new album’s themes which involved digging into her family’s history. Her father, originally from the island of Grenada, arrived in Canada as a teen refuge. The album also marks the first where Kater wrote all the tracks on the record.
She joined Cindy in sharing songs from some current favorite artists like Amelia Curren, Martha Scanlon, Mitski, and others.
