Ana Egge – “Sorry You’re Sick”
Ana Egge’s new take on Ted Hawkins’ song, “Sorry You’re Sick,” appears on her upcoming album, Sharing In The Spirit (out May 17). Of her interpretation Ana says, “The word ‘sick’ felt like it was referring to alcoholism and I desperately wanted the lyrics to shift and ask the listener honestly, ‘what do you want from the liquor store?’ [I rewrote] the chorus and the last verse to say what I needed to hear.”
Nina de Vitry – “If We Didn’t Have Night”
Here’s another fun and breezy new song from Nina de Vitry just a few months after her debut album What You Feel is Real.
Charley Crockett – “$10 Dollar Cowboy”
“$10 Cowboy” is the title track of Charley Crockett’s new album, coming out on April 26. According to Crockett, “A $10 cowboy is a country singer who made himself on a street corner in America. But the cowboy way, the cowboy mindset, applies to anyone who doesn’t feel free, who feels fenced in and bound to something.”
John Smith – “The Living Kind”
The Living Kind is the upcoming album from UK artist John Smith (out March 15). The album is about “responsibility and being keenly aware of your place within a family dynamic. When I started writing these songs, I knew immediately what was happening; in the space of three years, I had essentially become a different person and had a lot more to deal with. I wrote the songs just as we were beginning to rebuild our lives. They are about changing for the better in the face of loss. Celebrating the good things and facing up to the bad. Staying positive, trying to keep an eye on the centre, holding on to those we love and working towards a better future.”
