In the meantime, here’s a sneak peek at some exciting new music that’s caught our ears this week!
Bonnie “Prince” Billy, “They Keep Trying to Find You”
Out today (3/6), We Are Together Again is Will Oldham’s 28th solo album. The Louisville, KY-born and based Oldham recorded the album at the End of an Ear Studios in Louisville. He shares “This record was made closer to the Ohio River than any I’ve been involved with since 1993’s Palace Brothers There Is No-One What Will Take Care of You. Louisville’s current-and-past vital musical community is highlighted on every song.”
Tenille Townes, “The Acrobat” (feat. Lori McKenna)
Country singer Tenille Townes’ upcoming album, The Acrobat, leans more towards singer-songwriter and folk sounds. Speaking on the title track she shares, “‘The Acrobat’ is about the slow erosion that comes from trying to become what someone else needs, constantly balancing, bending, and reshaping yourself. The quiet whisper to the character in this song that I hope people hear, is that you don’t have to contort yourself to be worthy of love.”
José González, “A Perfect Storm”
“A Perfect Storm” is the latest song from José González’s upcoming album Against the Dying of the Light (out 3/27). He says “This song is about how we ourselves are creating the conditions for a more and more turbulent future. Compared to natural risks, these are man-made–and therefore not random.”
Angelo De Augustine, “Mirror Mirror”
On his new album Angel in Plainclothes (out 4/24), Angelo De Augustine shares a multi-year-long journey of healing and renewal. After collapsing and being hospitalized with an undiagnosed illness in early 2022, the Southern California-based singer/songwriter endured an arduous journey of re-learning how to walk, talk, see, hear, play music, and sing again; abilities most people take for granted. Once he was able to return to writing and recording, De Augustine welcomed others into his creative process for the first time in years. The end result is a reverent album. His most inspired and powerful work yet.
