In the meantime, here’s a sneak peek at some exciting new music that’s caught our ears this week!
Woody Guthrie, ‘Deportee (Woody’s Home Tape)”
Just out this week, Woody at Home is a two-volume secret treasure trove of Woody’s home recordings—recordings that Woody was unable to release in his lifetime. Never intended for commercial release, these raw and intimate home tapes were recorded in 1951-1952 at the family’s apartment in Beach Haven, Brooklyn. Woody made them as his musical introduction to his new publisher. Now, thanks to the leaps made in technology, Woody’s voice, ideas, and recordings are a guiding and candid voice. Woody sings about historic events, stories of the disenfranchised and ignored, love, and of course, the fight against fascism.
Brennen Leigh, “Dumpster Diving”
Nashville by way of Austin by way of North Dakota songwriter Brennan Leigh releases her new album Don’t You Ever Give Up On Love on Oct 3. Channeling her best Conway Twitter and Loretta Lynn, “Dumpster Diving” is a classic funny tongue in cheek country diss song.
David Wilcox, “The Way I Tell the Story”
Today, the Asheville, North Carolina based David Wilcox releases The Way I Tell the Story. A lot of the album is inspired by Hurricane Helene’s aftermath and how he and the community worked and are working to restore everything.
Minor Gold, “Moonlight Silver Highway”
The Cosmic Americana duo Minor Gold, are songwriters & Tracy McNeil (Canada) and Dan Parsons (Australia). “Moonlight Silver Highway” is from their sophomore album Way to the Sun.
