In the meantime, check out some of the best new music we’ve been listening to this week.

James McMurtry, “The Black Dog and the Wandering Boy”

James McMurtry’s latest album, The Black Dog and the Wandering Boy, is out on June 20. According to McMurtry, “The album title and that song comes from my stepmother, Faye. After my dad passed, she asked me if he ever talked to me about his hallucinations. He’d gone into dementia for a while before he died, but hadn’t mentioned to me anything about seeing things. She told me his favorite hallucinations were the black dog and the wandering boy. I took them and applied them to a fictional character.”

CRYS, “(I Might Not Be) Cut Out For Honky Tonkin'” (feat Olivia Ellen Lloyd)

Brooklyn based CRYS recently released a lovely country tune (“I Might Not Be) Cut Out For Honky Tonkin'”, featuring fellow Brooklynite, Olivia Ellen Lloyd. CRYS shares “It’s about my struggle to fit in, and ultimately my realization that not only do I fit in, but actually I (and folks like me) are essential to this corner of the music world.”

Kissing Other ppl, “Where’d All the Time Go?”

Named for a Lennon Stella song, the new trio Kissing Other ppl is made up of Rachel Baiman along with Viv & Riley. Their new release features covers by the likes of Wilco, Songs: Ohia, Joan Armatrading, and this Dr. Dog song, “Where’d All the Time Go?”

Shelby Means, “Suitcase Blues”

Heads up for bluegrass fans, Shelby Means’ (Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway, Della Mae) excellent self-titled debut album is out today! Produced by Maya de Vitry, it showcases Means as the solid bluegrasser songwriter and performer that she is.
