Green Day – Folkies?

While recently sharing an airport shuttle with a roadie for the band Green Day, I was reminded of something posted in one of my posts about the Bruce Springsteen tour. A reader (posting from the U.K.) commented that seeing Bruce do folk is a little like seeing Gloria Estefan doing traditional Latin music. That I don’t know about (and I think she would rock it out), but he also suggested that Green Day was the best American folk-rock group working today. I can kind of see that – from a certain angle, if I squint and tilt my head to the left. What do you think? Is Green Day a folkie band? And, who do you think is creating great folk rock these days?
