Rhiannon Giddens – “Carolina Rain”
🎶It’s true that we were younger once and now we’re growing old. Maybe we don’t want the things we wanted then. Why chase that dollar? My baby’s got a hеart of gold. I know that we will find ourselves again.🎶
A new Rhiannon Giddens record always gives reason to rejoice. She’s one of those artists whose divinity shines because of their humanity. She’s unspeakably talented and she’s devoted and, it would seem, is working all the time. We love her over here.
Says Giddens: “Louisiana, the Congo, Italy, the Carolinas – all of these influences and people coming together to make something: that is American music. It’s how American music came to be, and that was the original thought of creating a band with the musicians that I’ve been playing with for years, and featured on this album.”
‘Carolina Rain’ is a single from “Hope is the Thing with Feathers” (Nonesuch). The album is out today and Folk Alley has a review from Henry Carrigan.
Muireann Bradley – “Dancing On My Grave”
Inspired by the story of the death of Delta blues legend Robert Johnson in Mississippi in 1938, ‘Dancing on My Grave” is from Bradley’s upcoming EP, ‘Blackwood Pew which will be out at the end of October on Fontana Records/Verve.’
Speaking of graves: we also added this track to our Scream Stream which is currently haunting the holiday playlist!
