Celebrate John Prine’s Birthday with Free Livestreamed Concert

The great singer-songwriter John Prine would have turned 76 today and, to celebrate, his family and friends in Nashville have been throwing a monster celebration all weekend.

Performances so far have included a John Prine bourbon tasting, an Oh Boy Records pop-up shop, the unveiling of Prine’s star on the Music City Walk of Fame, a trolley tour to Prine’s favorite spots around town, and numerous showcases at various venues, featuring a cadre of Nashville talent.

Those performances continue through October 12, but the big show occurs tonight, October 10, at the storied Ryman Auditorium.

Fans at home can watch the concert online for free by registering here.

The lineup will not be announced until showtime, but one can imagine it is likely to be packed with some of the finest folk and roots artists in Nashville, Tennessee.

Dubbed “You Got Gold,” the event benefits the Hello in There Foundation, whose website calls it “a nonprofit charitable organization established by the family of John Prine as a way for his fan network, friends, and family to celebrate his memory and generous spirit through a philanthropic commitment to community care.”

To commemorate Prine’s birthday, Folk Alley offered up an hour tribute during our most recent “Folk Alley Radio Show.” Listen here.
