Rodrigo y Gabriella – “OurHome”
The explosive and signature playing of Mexican guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela is in full effect on “OurHome” – the title track from their new album (ATO records, available now).
The pair, Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero, told NPR that the catalyst for this for the album was, well, a cat. Or rather: the loss of one.
Quintero: “We have a studio at home, and we had a rescue kitty cat and her name was Pelusa (ph). And I rescued Pelusa and the veterinarians told me she was – it was best if I put her into sleep because she had no cure. And I didn’t want to, so we kept Pelusa at the studio for five years more. She passed. We had to let her go, and we were super, super sad, and Rod went home and he wrote a melody. ”
Jake Xerxes Fussell – “Every Time I Go to Town”

Jake Xerxes Fussell’s new album ‘The Beloved Path’ (Fat Possum) was released last Friday. From Fussell: “Traditional music gets more intense the older I get. The way that I see the world is through these songs. The world of traditional music has been such a gift to me. If nothing else, a lifelong companion.”
